Staten Island Revenge Porn Lawyers: Help for Intimate Image Abuse in Richmond County
Staten Island can feel like a small town, which can make intimate image abuse even harder to live with. If someone posted, sent or threatened to share an intimate photo or video of you, the law gives you ways to stop it and hold that person accountable.
Veridian Legal represents people across New York City whose intimate images were shared without consent, including images that were faked or altered with AI. Consultations are free and confidential.
What Counts as Intimate Image Abuse
Posting or sending a nude or sexual photo or video of you without your consent, even if you took it yourself or agreed to it being taken.
Threatening to share intimate images to control, embarrass or extort you.
Creating or sharing fake or AI-altered sexual images that look like you (often called deepfakes).
Recording you in an intimate setting without your knowledge.
Your Legal Options on Staten Island
Depending on the facts, you may be able to use several of these at the same time:
A lawsuit under New York City law. The City's intimate image law, Admin Code § 10-180, applies in all five boroughs. It allows victims to sue for damages, court orders and attorney's fees.
A lawsuit under New York State law. Civil Rights Law § 52-b allows you to sue for compensatory and punitive damages, an injunction, and attorney's fees. It also covers digitally altered images. The deadline is the later of three years after the images were shared or one year after you discovered, or reasonably should have discovered, that they were shared.
A federal lawsuit. 15 U.S.C. § 6851 allows you to recover your actual damages or $150,000 in liquidated damages, plus attorney's fees. The court can also let you proceed under a pseudonym.
Criminal charges. Sharing intimate images without consent is a crime under Penal Law § 245.15. You can report it to your local NYPD precinct, and a criminal case would generally be prosecuted by the Richmond County District Attorney's Office.
An order of protection. If the person is a current or former partner, a family member or the other parent of your child, you can file a family offense petition in Richmond County Family Court.
Fast removal from websites. Under the federal TAKE IT DOWN Act, covered platforms must remove nonconsensual intimate images within 48 hours of a valid request. We can help you make those requests and follow up when a site does not comply.
If we file a civil case in state court, it is usually filed in Supreme Court, Richmond County or in the county where the person who shared the images lives. We decide on the best court for your case, which may be state or federal court.
If You Do Not Know Who Shared the Images
Many images are posted from anonymous or fake accounts. Platforms and internet providers keep records that can identify the person behind an account, and a court can order them to turn those records over. Learn more about how we unmask anonymous accounts.

Common Questions
I am afraid people I know will see my name in a lawsuit. Is there another way?
Often, yes. Many cases resolve through takedowns, demand letters or confidential settlements. If a lawsuit is needed, we can ask the court to let you proceed under a pseudonym.
Do I have to meet you in Manhattan?
No. We can meet by phone or video, and most of the work can be done remotely.
